Founded by three people with questionable time management skills and a surplus of existential dread, The Outsider is a satire magazine committed to publishing content that is too long to be read, too clever to be liked, and too absurd to be ignored. Our reasons for creating The Outsider are described in our first article.

Meursault Sen is an engineer and writer; Pica Somatich is an illustrator and photographer; I am a film-maker who specialises in editing.

The artwork on this page is Pica’s doing. It’s a metaphor for the magazine itself: thoughtful, absurd, and happily, unapologetically blotto.

All of us have day jobs. I agreed to be the editor to experience something simultaneously strange and sincere. Meursault brings the philosophy and wields the pen, Pica brings the chaos, while I hold the Oxford Guide to Style. It’s the sensible division of labour in a group where ideas spiral and pigs dream of flying: someone has to ask, “Is this sane?" I became the editor because someone needed to be.

This magazine is for those who feel slightly out of step with the world, and who prefer their truths wrapped in irony and illustrated with pigs. Should a lone reader write to us in earnest, we will take it as proof that satire still works.

Welcome!
